Jitterbug Hourglass Eyelet Socks

These are a version of my own Hourglass Eyelet Socks that are done in Colinette Jitterbug. I absolutely LOVE this yarn. Because the Jitterbug is a little thicker than most sock yarns, and because it has a smaller yardage, I made a few minor modifications to the original pattern:

Jitterbug Hourglass Eyelet Socks:

Size: The first change I made was with the sizing. I normally would have made the larger size, but I made the medium instead. The finished circumference for the medium in Jitterbug is 7.5 inches.

Materials: 1 Colinette Jitterbug (100% merino wool; 267 m per 100 gm skein), color: Velvet Plum

Leg: Work only 5 full pattern repeats of the Hourglass Eyelet pattern. Piece will measure approximately 3 1/2 inches.

Everything else in the pattern is worked the same as the original. A link to the pattern is on my sidebar. I really love the way this yarn and pattern work together. Good luck if you decide to try it and show me how they turned out. For anyone on Ravelry (If not, go there NOW), my name there is cindysknits.

Hi Cindy,
I love your socks - I just bought a skein of Jitterbug (same colour as yours) and I think I will try the same pattern.
I knit for about 30 years now but never had the courage to break my mental block about knitting socks. I am very close though :).
What needle size did you use for yours?
thanks, best wishes, Silvia

Hi Silvia,
I used size US 2 needles for these socks. Socks are pretty forgiving, and this stitch pattern is really stretchy, so you could probably get away with needles a size or so smaller if that way all you had. Since these are your first socks, here are a few links to tutorials on doing 2 socks on 2 circulars:

These should help if you get stuck. Socks are one of my most favorite things to knit. Good luck and I hope you can catch the sock bug too.
